About the procedure
Talking about labias is a sensitive topic, but for many women, it is common to be concerned about the size and shape of their labia. While some women are born with a naturally larger or irregularly sized-labia, other women will experience changes in their labia after childbirth. This may cause discomfort, contribute to a lack of confidence mentally, and also physical discomfort when wearing tight clothing, playing sports or even during intercourse.
Dr Hodgkinson reported on labiaplasty (also known as Labioplasty Labia Reduction, or Labia Minora Reduction) in the international plastic surgical literature some 30 years ago. It was somewhat of a taboo subject then but it is now a far more common procedure. If you are having questions or concerns in regards to your labia, book in a consultation with Dr Hodgkinson, to discuss how best to address those questions and concerns that you have.
Are you considering Labiaplasty?
At our clinic, we provide a private and discreet environment for our patients to discuss their issues and concerns openly and honestly. It is often reassuring to many patients to be able to open up and be able to discuss their concerns, and they gain confidence in knowing that that there are solutions available to them.
It is unfortunate that many women feel uncomfortable to discuss this sensitive topic and instead live with these symptoms and problems unaware that a simple surgical solution like Labiaplasty, is available to help them.
How Does a Labiaplasty Procedure Work?
The Labiaplasty surgery is a basic procedure that reduces, or changes the shape, of the small lips on the outside of the vagina. This area is also referred to as the labia minora.
The procedure involves small incisions which are made to remove excess tissue and reduce or reshape the labia minora; all stitches are dissolvable and dressings are not normally needed.
There are many concerns with surgical procedures on this area of the body, though it is important to note that the clitoris is not affected by a labiaplasty, and so there is no loss of sexual sensation as a result of labiaplasty. In some instances, women will experience an improvement in sensation during sexual activities.
What Happens After Labiaplasty?
A labisplasty is performed under a light general anaesthetic, It is also possible that you will experience some physical discomfort, and some pain-relieving medication may be required. We will also be available at any time to answer questions or concerns that you may have following the procedure.
It Is possible to resume any normal light activities that you would regularly do the next day, or whenever comfortable for you, though we do recommend that you prepare for taking anywhere from 5 to 10 days off from work to recover, and avoid sexual intercourse for over a month.
How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost?
Because each patient will have a unique set of requirements for their procedure, there isn’t a specific costing for a labiaplasty. However, generally the surigical fee is about $5000.
During your consultation with Dr Hodgkinson, when the full appreciation of your goals has been determined, we will provide you with a no obligation quote that ensures that you have a complete and accurate price quoted before agreeing to any procedure.
There is no need for you to obtain a referral from your own doctor before seeing Dr Hodgkinson.
