Facelift Surgeons Endorse Vertical Platysmal Advancement

Last week I attended a two day symposium in Sydney on face and neck lift surgery.  Four visiting speakers from the United States gave lectures and demonstrations to a group of about 100 surgeons from Australia.  There was a reinforcement of the concept of the platysma muscle elevation being the key to neck rejuvenation.   This elevation of the platysma muscle was previously referred to as the deep plane facelift or SMAS facelift.

This deep plane facelift in Sydney was a technique which I practiced in the early nineties, even when I was back in the United States myself prior to repatriating to Australia after my time at the Mayo Clinic and in private practice.  Over the years, having always followed advancements in the scientific literature, I modified this technique, emphasizing more dramatic neck results after reviewing initiatives by Dr Alain Fogli from France.

Since modifying the Fogli technique, which I have published, I have performed about six hundred facelifts over the last eight years alone utilizing “vertical platysma elevation”.  My techniques have allowed me to obtain a superior neck rejuvenation which in turn leads to the most satisfied patients of those who have requested surgical rejuvenation of their ageing face.  Before and after surgery we can also utilize anti-wrinkle injections, injectible fillers, radio-frequency, laser and skin resurfacing to even further enhance the results.
