Nose Reshaping FAQs

Dr. Hodgkinson first tests the breathing function of every patient with existing nasal trauma while evaluating the inside structures of the nose. This is a vital step in the process of determining the best path forward and the opportunities for the outside appearance of the nose. Swelling is different from patient to patient and skin thickness can mean that the result takes up to a year to reveal itself.

Dr. Hodgkinson uses a computer imaging tool to help provide a visual idea of what the nose shape will look like post-procedure, offering various looks that best complement the overall facial features.

All necessary information about every aspect of your procedure will be provided well in advance by Dr. Hodgkinson’s experienced team. This includes specific post-operative instructions to ensure you have nothing less than the best recovery process possible.

To help ensure this, it is vital that you follow any instructions that are given to you for the healing process to the letter to achieve the best results. Rhinoplasty offers results that are evident immediately, but you will experience some swelling or bruising that will subside over several months. After this, the actual form of your new look will be revealed.

In rare cases, the final results can take up to a year to form as cartilage can reshape over time as it adjusts to the new shape of your nose.

This is often one of the largest fears faced by patients when it comes to having a nose augmentation. Dr. Hodgkinson’s specialty across all procedures is a sensitivity to a range of elements. This includes the look of the person’s face, as well as gender, ethnic background, and family resemblance.

When it comes to the rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Hodgkinson is an expert who works hard to individualise the results for every one of his patients, so the new look is natural and balanced. This, in turn, means that the results do not show signs of obvious surgical intervention.

It certainly can. Dr. Hodgkinson is an expert in altering flat noses in both Caucasians and Oriental rhinoplasty. He is able to build up the bridge of the nose to provide an improved aesthetic, creating a better balance with the eyes. Asian patients find this gives a more Eurasian appearance, which they prefer.

This procedure can be done with silicone however these are considerable problems long term with foreign material in the nose. Dr. Hodgkinson’s unique process uses the patient’s own tissue or a small piece of bone from the elbow to produce a more refined profile creating a more desirable appearance when viewing the face from the front. This result lasts a lifetime.

This highlights the upper part of the face and has been performed by Dr. Hodgkinson hundreds of times with few problems, as opposed to the silicone process, which tends to extrude or be rejected over time.

Most breathing issues can be rectified by the rhinoplasty procedure, but an assessment to confirm this is vital. If your septum, which is the internal divider between the nostrils, has been damaged, a cosmetic procedure can help. This will also alter external structures, clearing the airways, and improving your breathing.

This procedure is known as a ‘septoplasty,’ which is the best path forward for those with breathing problems caused by an injury. The rhinoplasty and septoplasty procedures are able to be performed at the same time, improving both appearance and function in one surgery. If you have an issue with swelling due to allergies or dust in your turbinates (internal nose structures), this too may be rectified via a modification to help breathing abilities.

Dr. Hodgkinson places great importance on working at the highest levels of safety and care, which is why the thousands of nose surgeries he has performed over his long career have experienced no adverse or negative risks. Part of our responsibility as medical practitioners requires us, however, to inform you of any possible associated risks for the surgical procedures we provide.

    In the case of a nose bridge procedure, possible risks may include;

    • Scarring and swelling
    • Infection
    • Bruising
    • The need for secondary procedures as healing is unpredictable
    • Visible swelling over several months
    • Bleeding
    • Asymmetry

Dr. Hodgkinson is known for his ability to ensure that all of his procedures are well-suited to the patient, especially when taking into account their gender. The primary goal is always an individualised, natural, and balanced look.

When achieving this, the outcome should not make it look like you have undergone surgery. The aesthetic goals for a male patient often require maintaining a strong nose to confirm a masculine appearance that is healthy.

A nasal bridge surgery offers various recovery times as the potential complexity will differ for each patient. We will have an exact answer during your consultation based on your specific situation; however, a rough time frame for standard cases sits around the seven to ten-day mark. You will be able to resume a majority of your activities within two weeks, and you should refrain from contact sports for roughly six weeks to be safe.

After your procedure, you will feel quite tired and require some sort of bandaging or splint that will sit across your nose. This will need to remain in place for around seven days. We will ensure that you are well across the healing and recovery process, along with specific timeframes once you have been evaluated, and we understand the complexity of your particular procedure.

Dr. Hodgkinson and the team work hard to ensure that you are aware of all the details and understand everything required of you pre and post-surgery. We always strongly encourage that you ask any questions that you may have, as we are here to assist you during the entire process.

The reason why so many people come to see Dr. Hodgkinson is his preparation process in which he will discuss the options and outcomes of your procedure, while also using the Alter Image program to provide a visual example of your expected results to help make your decision.

You will find peace of mind knowing that your goals will be taken into account with your current situation to ensure your nasal bridge procedure will provide an outcome that you’ll love, reinstating your self-confidence and comfort.

It may be the case that a different procedure is better suited to your goals, and if so, Dr. Hodgkinson will discuss this with you. This exemplifies the importance of the consultation process to find the best path forward for you.

That way, you will understand the potential and realistic outcomes, as well as any associated risks. If you have any questions, they will be answered during this time, and Dr. Hodgkinson will ensure that you are comfortable with all decisions before surgery is confirmed.

The ‘Alter Image’ program allows Dr. Hodgkinson to let you see the achievable natural outcome of your procedure.

It is crucial to note that even though nasal tip surgery is a less invasive procedure, it is still a surgery, which brings with it an element of risk. Dr. Hodgkinson’s team will explain all of this in-depth during your consultation.

You will have great peace of mind; however, in knowing that over a 30-year career, Dr. Hodgkinson has never experienced a serious or life-threatening complication with any of his patients post-surgery.

With thousands of rhinoplasties performed, Dr. Hodgkinson’s stellar safety record speaks for itself. He and his team ensure the highest levels of safety, guaranteeing the most exceptional level of care for every patient.

While every surgical procedure has a level of risk or complication that may be present, you should be aware of them to stay properly informed. If you are a patient with a poor medical history or are psychologically unstable, you may not be a suitable candidate for this procedure.

Any relevant risks will be explained during your consultation; and in cases of rhinoplasty, the small risks can be infection, bruising, or bleeding, along with a low risk of issues concerning the anaesthetic.

All of Dr. Hodgkinson’s patients have experienced high-levels of care and safety due to his skill level and strong focus on quality aftercare.

There are plenty of other rhinoplasty options to help reshape the nose. One popular procedure is the nose augmentation, which is appropriate for those who feel they have a “flat” nose. In this procedure, Dr. Hodgkinson will build up the bridge of the nose, creating an improved balance with the eyes. If you have experienced a nasal fracture, this procedure may be of benefit by helping to restore a flattened nose. This is performed using Dr. Hodgkinson’s method of bone or cartilage grafts, which build up the nose.

In a case where breathing is difficult, nose reshaping surgery can help; however, it is likely you will require a more invasive technique than that of nasal tip surgery.

It is usually the case that a more-in-depth rhinoplasty is necessary so that the airways can be cleared and breathing improved. You may be better suited to a procedure called a ‘septoplasty,’ which trims turbinates that block the nasal passage.

If you are having breathability issues, let Dr. Hodgkinson know. Not all cosmetic surgery is aesthetic, as there may be functional requirements as well. With all of the information, Dr. Hodgkinson can make an appropriate assessment during your consultation and determine the best path forward for you.

This is a low-impact procedure as it only affects the cartilage of the nose, not the underlying bones. The result is a surgery and recovery time that is much shorter than a full rhinoplasty. At most, you may experience minimal bruising and swelling, but these will subside over time.

Nasal tip surgery is subtle. The procedure will not create a drastic change in the appearance of your face; however, some patients may require up to six months for swelling to disappear completely. Regular work can be resumed after approximately 1-2 weeks.

It has been proven that Dermal Fillers are safe for use in the human body, and Dr. Hodgkinson only uses products with proven safety records. As mentioned earlier, we are unable to name the products on our website; however, Dermal Fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a substance that occurs naturally in the cells of the skin. This means there is no risk of allergic reactions, and Dermal Fillers are even safe for people with food sensitivities.

The brands of Dermal Fillers used by Dr. Hodgkinson are available in many countries all over the world and have been used as an injectable cosmetic treatment for more than two decades with an exceptional track record of safety.

As far as injectable pain is concerned, Dermal Fillers create a low level to none. Most patients say it is nearly painless, and a topical cream can be used to numb the area if the pain experienced is moderate. The tip of the nose is the most sensitive area; however, many patients can generally go straight back to work after the procedure with merely a small red or slightly bruised area to contend with for roughly a week. There is a reason why this procedure is often referred to as the “lunchtime nose job.”

The ideal patient for a non-surgical nose job as opposed to a traditional Rhinoplasty is someone with a pronounced bump on the bridge section of their nose. By filling the area around the bump, you can create the illusion of a perfectly straight nose. While it may seem like we are adding to the nose, we are actually adding to make it look smaller. This procedure is also suitable to correct a droopy tip via filler that will help lift it up, along with mildly crooked noses via filler that will fix any sharp angles.

If you feel like your nose is just too big with a bump that is too big or too extreme, or if you have had your nose broken, a surgical Rhinoplasty may be better suited to your situation. The same applies to a nose that is too thick, which needs to be thinned out. Traditional rhinoplasty would be required in these cases; however, this will be determined during your consultation with Dr. Hodgkinson.

With the aid of our computer program ‘Alter Image,’ Dr. Hodgkinson provides patients with an accurate idea of what to expect from their procedure.

All injections come with risks such as swelling, bruising, and bleeding, and it is important to keep in mind that the nose is a particularly delicate area of the face. The blood supply to the nose is quite weak, especially in noses that have already undergone a previous surgery. For these reasons, it is crucial that your surgeon has experience with non-surgical nose jobs to diminish the level of risk. Dr. Hodgkinson is yet to see any adverse effects or reactions in any of his patients from surgeries he has performed.

    Dr. Hodgkinson is an expert in all rhinoplasty procedures having over 30 years experience and has performed thousands of surgeries, always ensuring the highest levels of safety. All surgical procedures present a level of risk; these are the ones relevant to rhinoplasty;

    • Issues with the anaesthetic including allergies
    • Infection
    • Bleeding
    • Asymmetry
    • Visible swelling over several months
    • Bruising
    • Altered nasal sensation

These problems are uncommon, it is also important to note that any incisions will be inconspicuous, and all scarring will fade or lessen with time.

Many male patients are worried about a feminine look after a rhinoplasty; however, Dr. Hodgkinson can individualise the result. If we are aiming for a natural and balanced look, and you are male, then your manly features will be maintained. Male rhinoplasty avoids the “cute” look that is caused by too much tissue or cartilage being removed. Using video imaging … allows the patient to choose their look.

Males like to maintain a strong nose that is one of the defining features of the masculine appearance. As Dr. Hodgkinson always provides the best results for his patients, achieving this is the goal in life.

With all rhinoplasty cases, we aim for an improvement as opposed to change dramatically. However, if you take part in contact sports, you should wait around six weeks before resuming them.

Dr. Hodgkinson’s Double Bay Day Surgery facility provides a comfortable environment for all patients, with the use of state-of-the-art equipment. Our main goal is minimal postoperative sedation and the quickest recovery period possible in all procedures. You will likely feel a little strange as the anaesthetic wears off, and may also experience some tiredness, soreness, swelling, or discomfort after the procedure. Your family can take you home or we can organise a nurse to care for you post operatively.

Post-surgery you will require a splint across your nose for roughly seven days. Once this is removed, we use paper tape for a further several weeks to reduce swelling. You will be well across this process as our team will provide all relevant information about post-operative care during our consultations. We always encourage patients to ask whatever questions they need to ensure complete ease with the process of their procedure as well as their recovery.

If you have issues with breathing or your septum has been damaged, nose reshaping surgery can be of benefit.

Ths Septoplasty Procedure can reshape and improve both the appearance and function of the nose. Visit our Before and After Gallery to see the aesthetic changes that can be achieved during the Septoplasty procedure. In particular a twisted nose can be straightened with the procedure of septorhinoplasty.

It is important to note that Dr. Hodgkinson works at the highest levels of safety and care, and has performed thousands of nose surgeries with no adverse or negative risks during the healing process.  But as part of our responsibility as medical practitioners, we must inform you of all associated risks with all surgical procedures.

    It is very important that you are aware of any potential risks with any surgical procedure that you may be considering. In the case of a nose reconstruction, these may include;

    • Scarring and swelling
    • Infection
    • Bruising
    • The need for secondary procedures as healing is unpredictable
    • Allergy
    • Reduced sense of smell
    • Visible swelling over several months
    • Loss of structural support
    • Perforation of the septum
    • Excessive pain
    • Altered nasal sensation
    • Bleeding
    • Asymmetry
    • Airway obstruction

This is a complete list of potential problems, many of which are extremely rare, with low percentages of eventuality. If your nose reconstruction requires incisions, Dr. Hodgkinson aims to make them as inconspicuous as possible. Any scarring will fade with time.

One of the main reasons why people seek Dr. Hodgkinson for their nose reconstructions is his ability to ensure that any nose surgery is well-suited to the look and gender of his patient. Dr. Hodgkinson always provides an individualised result that creates a natural and balanced look. An outcome that does not make it look like you have undergone surgery should be part of your aesthetic goals, and in the case of a male patient, maintaining a strong nose and masculine appearance helps create a look of health and vigor.

With the aid of our computer program ‘Alter Image,’ Dr. Hodgkinson will be able to give you an idea of the achievable natural outcome as part of your nose reconstruction.

While this is a less invasive procedure, all surgery brings with it an element of risk or complication. These will be explained to you during your consultation; however, it is important to note that in his over 30-year career, Dr. Hodgkinson has never had a serious or life threatening complication post-surgery.

As mentioned above, Dr. Hodgkinson has performed thousands of rhinoplasties. He ensures the highest levels of safety and his team guarantee the most exceptional care for every patient. This being said, every surgical procedure has a level of potential risk or complication that you should be aware of. Some patients with a poor medical history who are psychologically unstable are not candidates.

Risks will be made clear to you during your consultation based on the specific procedure you are considering. As a general rule, rhinoplasty can present a small risk of infection, bruising, and bleeding. There is a small risk of issues with the anaesthetic.

It is vital to note that none of Dr. Hodgkinson’s patients have experienced any of the above situations due to his high skill level and strong focus on quality aftercare.

Yes, another popular nose augmentation is those who feel they have a “flat” nose. Dr. Hodgkinson can build up the nose’s bridge to create a better balance with the eyes. This can also help in situations where there has been a nasal fracture that has flattened the nose. He often uses bone or cartilidge grafts to build up the nose.

Nose reshaping surgery can help with breathing issues; however, the surgery will usually require a more invasive technique than the one used for closed nose tip surgery. A more-in-depth rhinoplasty will be required to free-up your airways and improve your breathing. This is often performed by a procedure called a ‘septoplasty.’ Sometimes turbinates block the nasal passage and need to be trimmed.

It is vital that you make Dr. Hodgkinson aware of the key drivers for your want of surgery, be they aesthetic or functional, so he can make an appropriate assessment and determine the best path forward for your needs and wants.

As it is only the cartilage in your nose that is being augmented during this procedure and not the underlying bones, both surgery and recovery time is shorter than a full rhinoplasty. You will likely experience minimal bruising and swelling, which will subside over time.

Nose tip surgery is a subtle procedure that will not create a drastic change to your appearance, but it should be noted that it can take up to six months for all swelling to disappear. You will be able to return to work after approximately 1-2 weeks.

Dr. Hodgkinson’s experienced team will give specific post-operative instructions that will ensure the best recovery process possible. It is crucial that you follow these instructions to the letter to achieve the best results. The results of a rhinoplasty are evident immediately; however, it is normal and expected to experience swelling that will subside over several months, eventually revealing the actual form of your new look. In some cases, final results can take up to a year as cartilage can reshape over time to adjust to the new shape of the nose.

This is often one of the biggest fears faced by male patients when it comes to having a nose augmentation. It is important to remember that Dr. Hodgkinson’s specialty across all procedures, male or female, is a sensitivity to a range of elements, including the look of the face, gender, ethnic background, and family resemblance.

When it comes to the rhinoplasty procedure, some surgeons can over-feminise their male surgical results, creating a type of stigma that the nose job is a feminine procedure. This is not an issue; however, when an expert in nose surgery such as Dr. Hodgkinson is on the case. He works hard to individualise the results for each patient, so the new look is natural and balanced.

Male rhinoplasty requires an avoidance of a “cute” or “button” look, which is often caused by removing too much tissue or cartilage. Dr. Hodgkinson believes it is critical to maintain a strong nose for his male patients, which is in balance with the rest of the face. This will, almost by default, guarantee a natural masculine appearance.

Yes, Dr. Hodgkinson has worked on many a flat nose in both Caucasians and Oriental patients who wish to have the bridge of their nose built up. This particular augmentation creates a better balance with the eyes or a more Eurasian appearance in Asian patients. This is also an option for those who have had nasal fractures due to contact sports, which have caused an element of flattening to the nose.

The nasal bridge can be elevated with silicone; however, Dr. Hodgkinson is well known for a differing process that uses the patient’s own tissue. Dr. Hodgkinson can, for example, take a small piece of bone from the elbow, for use in the nose to produce a more refined profile and a more desirable appearance from the front view. This will highlight the upper part of the face.
Dr. Hodgkinson has performed hundreds of these augmentation procedures with few problems which silicone tends to extrude or be rejected with time.

The rhinoplasty procedure can help most breathing issues; however, you will require an assessment to confirm this. If the internal divider between the nostrils, known as the septum, has been damaged, the cosmetic procedure can rectify this along with altering external structures, which will help clear your airways, improving your breathing.

Known as a ‘septoplasty,’ this procedure is often the best path forward for men with a previous injury that has resulted in a breathing problem. The rhinoplasty and septoplasty procedures can be performed at the same time, meaning both appearance and function can be improved. The turbinates are internal structures which can swell because of allergies or dust and an unhealthy work environment. Those too may be modified to help breathing.

    • Altered nasal sensation
    • Asymmetry

Many male patients express concerns about a feminine look with their surgical results. Dr. Hodgkinson can individualise the result to ensure the new look is natural, balanced, and in male rhinoplasty, avoiding a “cute” look. This is often caused by the removal of too much tissue or cartilage. Males desiring to maintain a strong nose which gives a natural masculine appearance is common, and we work towards providing the best results for our patients.

The goal for most patients who seek the Asian rhinoplasty procedure is an improvement as opposed to change. Dr. Hodgkinson can customise the result of rhinoplasty to ensure you look like the best you possible, completely recognisable when you see your reflection.

Asian rhinoplasty causes minimal discomfort and any pain experienced after the procedure can be lessened with oral painkillers such as Panadol. The recovery period for Asian rhinoplasty will take approximately seven to ten days with most activities able to be resumed within two weeks. The one exception to this is contact sports for which patients should wait roughly six weeks before resuming.

Dr. Hodgkinson’s expert team and state-of-the-art Day Surgery facility will create the most comfortable environment possible for all patients. The primary goal is always minimal post-operative sedation along with the quickest recovery period possible. Most patients experience a slightly strange feeling as the anaesthetic wears off, and it is not uncommon to also experience a level of tiredness, soreness, swelling, or discomfort.

    • Bleeding
    • Issues with the anaesthetic such as deep vein thrombosis

    Dr. Hodgkinson has performed a Rhinoplasty procedure thousands of time and he ensures that the highest levels of safety and care are taken for every patient; however, every surgical procedure presents a certain level of potential risk or complication. In the case of Rhinoplasty these can include;

    • Infection
    • Bruising
    • Bleeding
    • Haematoma formation
    • Scarring
    • Issues with the anaesthetic such as deep vein thrombosis

Most of these listed problems are extremely rare.

The incisions that are made as part of this process are inconspicuous, along with any scarring that will fade or lessen with time.

    nose surgery rhinoplasty

Before and 6 months after Rhinoplasty

The “ski-jump” nose is usually caused by trauma, an accident or in some unfortunate cases, previous over-zealous rhinoplasty surgery wherein a less experienced surgeon removes too much tissue leaving a the patient with a nose which is either unnatural in shape or too small.

In a male, a small, weak nose is seen as most unattractive and lacking masculinity. Most men want a good strong nose and to achieve this for patients with a scooped out or too small nose, we use a patient’s own tissues to build up the top of the nose, thereby producing a more handsome, defined profile.

The tissues used for this nasal grafting are most commonly bone and cartilage.  The use of silicone implants or implants of any synthetic material is problematic as over time the body rejects the implant and the implant works its way out of the nose and requires removal and can create an even more difficult defect to repair.

If your nose is naturally too small or scooped out in shape from trauma or previous surgery, there are options for rhinoplasty surgery to create a more natural and pleasing shape to your nose.

    Before and After Nose Surgery

Yes he can! Some Caucasians and many Oriental patients have a “flat” nose and request us to build up their nose’s bridge. This results in a better balance with the eyes and in Asians creates a more Eurasian appearance.

Nasal fractures, often associated with contact sports like football and boxing, can also cause an undesirable “flattening” of the nose.

Elevation of the nasal bridge with silicone is an occasional option, but Dr Hodgkinson generally prefers to use the patient’s own tissue.

This Indonesian lady had a small piece of bone taken from her elbow and transplanted into her nose to produce not only a more refined profile but also a better appearance from the front view, glamorising and highlighting the upper part of her face.

    Before and After Nose Enhancement

A nose job can also be referred to as rhinoplasty. The trials and tribulations of pop icon Michael Jackson drew much comment on rhinoplasty and nose jobs. Certainly the fear of many patients seeking rhinoplasty is of ending up with a nose that has an obviously “operated-on” look so they are tagged as having had a ‘nose job’.

Too much tissue taken out of the tip of the nose, too great a reduction of the dorsum or bridge of the nose and/or an inappropriate repositioning of the nasal bones, all by inexperienced surgeons are the usual causes of the so-called “nose job”.

Another common cause is the use of plastic in the nose. These ‘plastic (or silicone) implants’ are common amongst Asian patients and are rarely successful in the long term.

Rhinoplasty if done correctly by a surgeon with experience and expertise can be one of the most satisfying procedures, beautifying the face and improving the patient’s profile. Any breathing problems can also be dealt with at the same time.

    Before and After Rhinoplasty

Yes it can. At the same time that nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty) is carried out, issues with breathing can also be addressed.

If the septum, the internal division between the nostrils, has been twisted or damaged from trauma this can be fixed along with any external structures to ‘free-up’ your airways and improve your breathing. This procedure is called a ‘septoplasty’.

Usually, patients who want reshaping due to some injury have some sort of breathing problem to improve as well. The two procedures of rhinoplasty and septoplasty can be carried out at the same time, improving both the appearance and the function of the nose.

We encourage patients to make use of the many tools we have available to help them explain to us what they want to achieve including: our articles, blog posts, galleries of “before and after” photos of actual patients, clinical procedural brochures, videos and digital computer imaging. All of these tools play a vital role in helping us to communicate with our patients and to understand their expectations and desired result.

We encourage patients to describe what they want and show us photos of the noses that he or she likes. It is also helpful for them to share photos of any relative of theirs who they think has a particularly attractive nose. Patients may bring photos of models, celebrities, or film actors from popular magazines. This is not discouraged but rather encouraged as a further tool for communication. Clear, accurate communication between surgeon and patient is a top priority to allow a proper assessment to be made and realistic advice to be given.

Before and After Nose Surgery – Rhinoplasty

Most patients have a good idea about what they dislike about their nose and what they want done but a big concern is how much time they will miss from work or studies and/or how much discomfort they will experience. The surgery surprisingly causes minimal discomfort and oral painkillers such as Panadol can control this. Recovery from rhinoplasty takes approximately seven to ten days and you can resume most activities within two weeks, except for contact sports. Rigorous activities can be resumed at about six weeks.

The hard work of our team, along with the state-of-art equipment and materials we use create the most comfortable environment possible for patients. We aim for minimal postoperative sedation and the quickest recovery period possible. You will likely feel strange as the anaesthetic wears off and experience some soreness, swelling, or discomfort, which is all completely normal.

You will also likely feel tired after surgery and have a splint placed across your nose to assist in the healing process for around seven days after surgery and with paper tape for several weeks after that. We ensure that you are well-informed when it comes to the healing process so there will be no shocks or surprises after your procedure. You are encouraged to ask any question that you may have to ensure you are entirely comfortable with what will happen before, during or after a rhinoplasty surgery.

    Before and After Rhinoplasty

Most patients want improvement – not change.  Many patients in my practice voice a concern about having plastic surgery that they feel might make them look like someone else.  After years of looking at yourself in the mirror or of your family and friends looking at you it is normal to be concerned about too great a change. This is something that it is important to discuss with your surgeon. In expert hands it is possible to customise the result of rhinoplasty or other cosmetic surgery to ensure that you look like the best you possible – not someone else.

    Before and After Rhinoplasty

Proportion and balance of features are very important considerations with nasal reshaping, known as Rhinoplasty. The shape of the face and the chin as well as the position of the eyes should all be taken in consideration when contemplating changing the shape of your nose.

We find that digital imaging and image manipulation can often give the patient a better visual idea of what the end result might be. We encourage patients to bring photos of noses they like so we can discuss their expectations and what is realistic.

The trend is away from making a too-cute or stylised nose and more towards individualised rhinoplasty to suit both the patient’s features as well as aesthetic requirements.

    Before and After Rhinoplasty

It is important whether male or female that surgery to the nose be carried out with a sensitivity to the patient’s face, gender, ethnic background and family resemblance. Many surgeons who have a predominantly female patient base may have the tendency to over-feminise their male surgical results. Experts in nose surgery/ rhinoplasty can individualise the result for each patient to ensure that their new look is natural, balanced and attractive. In all male rhinoplasty surgery it is important to avoid a “cute” of “button” by removing too much tissue or cartilage.  It is critical to maintain a strong nose that is in balance with the patient’s face and which gives a natural masculine appearance.

Often, patients who want reshaping due to an injury have some sort of breathing problem as well. The two procedures of rhinoplasty and septoplasty can be carried out at the same time, improving both the appearance and the function of the nose.

Our experienced team will give you specific post-operative instructions which should be followed to the letter to ensure the best results possible are achieved. You will see the results of your Rhinoplasty immediately; however, you will likely experience swelling which can take up to several months to subside. Genuine final results can take up to a year to reveal themselves in some cases. Cartilage can also reshape over time to adjust to your new nose.

Before and 6 months after Rhinoplasty

We find the most common age for people to undergo nose surgery is in their young adult years between the ages of 18 and 30, especially for those starting their university education or beginning new careers.

In fact, it is during the school or university summer holidays that we see the most student-aged patients for nose surgery. The full age range of patients, however, extends from 16 to 75! Improving a patient’s profile can dramatically enhance their overall appearance, and often rhinoplasty is combined with a cosmetic procedure on the chin or facial rejuvenation surgery to balance and enhance the look of the face as a whole.
