SKIN CANCER CAN’T WAIT! DR HODGKINSON IS OPEN AND HERE TO TAKE CARE OF YOU.
Melanoma … The most dangerous type of skin cancer.
If untreated, melanomas can spread to other parts of the body and may not be curable. The biggest risk factor for developing a melanoma is overexposure to UV radiation from the sun or solariums.
Did you know that 80% of newly diagnosed cancers in Australia are skin cancer? In fact 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer at some point in their life.
Skin cancer holds the unfortunate distinction of being the world’s most common cancer. Though its prevalence around the globe is disturbing, there is some good news:
When caught early, skin cancers are almost always curable.
You might already know that catching a cancer early means a more favorable prognosis. But it can be difficult to comprehend just how big a difference early detection makes with melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Melanoma should never be underestimated, but treating a tumour early rather than after it is allowed to progress could be lifesaving.
It is vital to comprehend the significance of timing, early diagnosis and treatment.
Dr Hodgkinson has successfully removed and reconstructed difficult skin cancers for hundreds of patients over the decades. It is important not only to remove the entire cancer to ensure the patient’s survival but to reconstruct the patient so that very little deformity exits after the patient has healed. This is important and enables the patient to confidently carry on normal socialisation.
Unlike many clinics, The Cosmetic and Restorative Clinic has a highly qualified histopathologist on site to check the tumour margins. This ensures that the entire tumour is removed before reconstruction. Not only does this give the patient peace of mind and the best chance moving forward, but allows Dr Hodgkinson to give the patient the best possible aesthetic result with the patient not having to return continually to have more and more tumourous tissue removed.
In addition to Dr Hodgkinson’s training in skin cancer surgery at the Mayo Clinic, He was formerly the consultant plastic surgeon to the Skin and Cancer Foundation here in Australia and carried out workshops for Dermatologists, General Practitioners and General Surgeons instructing how to best remove skin cancers and reconstruct the area to give the best clinical and aesthetic result. A link to one of these workshops can be found here https://www.drhodgkinson.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Skin-Cancer-Workshop-Variety-of-Skin-Cancer-Types-and-Reconstructive-Options.pdf
Please don’t assume your spots and lesions aren’t cancer. Have them checked and have them removed surgically and if necessary reconstructed.
No matter what is happening in the world, remember, cancer can’t wait and skin cancer is no exception.
