Operation Restore Hope 20th Anniversary Mission Underway!
Surgery begins today, 20 October 2014 for Operation Restore Hope’s 20th Anniversary Mission being held at Lapu Lapu City Hospital in Cebu in the Philippines. Yesterday Dr Hodgkinson and his Co-Founders Dr Wyben Briones and Graeme MacKinnon, accompanied by Mission Coordinator Dr Ann Collins who was also present at the first mission held a highly successful screening day where they saw 102 patients and have already scheduled 65 for surgery this week. The team is comprised of surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and administrators from Australia, the UK and the Philippines. Not to worry to the children who may not have surgery this week or who missed screening – there is another Operation Restore Hope mission scheduled for Cebu in just a few months in March 2015.
Operation Restore Hope normally carries out three missions per year to the Philippines with surgeons from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the USA and Germany as well as the Philippines. The primary focus is cleft lip and palate surgery. Operation Restore Hope has been operating for 20 years since 1994 and in that time has fielded 45 missions as well as working throughout the year with our Filippino colleagues to care for its special patients.
