Dr Hodgkinson recognised again as a thought leader on Face and Neck Lifting
Dr Hodgkinson recognised again as a thought leader on Face and Neck Lifting as published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Dr Hodgkinson has published 4 books, been asked to write 8 chapters in textbooks on plastic surgery and has had 72 peer reviewed articles on plastic surgery appear in the world’s most prestigious journals. He continues to be a major active contributor to the development of cosmetic plastic surgical procedures and techniques and has already had two articles published in the first six months of 2018 in the journal Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
His latest article describes further development in his published technique on face and neck lifting surgery in Sydney which took the technique of famous French plastic surgeon Alain Fogli whom Dr Hodgkinson visited and collaborated with as his jumping off point. Dr Hodgkinson initially explored expanding this technique to include a greater focus on rectifying the ageing of the neck. Dr Hodgkinson had noted that one of the primary concern of patients presenting for facial rejuvenation was laxity of the jowls and neck which resulted not only in an aged but “hangdog” appearance. Dr Hodgkinson described a technique which would allow him to include the neck as an aesthetic area of equal importance to the face and work from the collar bones through and including the neck and jowels to the face to create an overall more balanced youthful appearance. This addressing of all the contiguous aesthetic units of the face allowed for a more natural appearance and avoided the tell tale signs of a surgical procedure such as having a tight face and a loose, saggy neck.
This latest technique is a further unique innovation by Dr Hodgkinson as he now has had several patients on whom he performed his Fogli technique coming back 10 plus years later not requiring a further full facelift surgery in Sydney but wanting a refresh. What Dr Hodgkinson has discovered is that his initial work in the way that he used the sutures to lift the structures of the face was so robust that he could locate these sutures and use them to re-fixate the tissues to a higher level without all the dissection and morbidity required in a primary full facelift. He has now performed this “refreshing” technique in several patients with less downtime and results that are so satisfying to the patient and impressive enough to his plastic surgical colleagues that they have been noted in the world literature of his craft group.
It is important to remember that the number one determinant in the quality of anyone’s plastic surgical result is the expertise of the plastic surgeon performing the procedure. Expertise comes not only with talent but with years’ of experience and dedication. Both the talent and the experience and dedication must be present for excellence.
