Dr Hodgkinson Chosen to Author Chapter on Liposuction in Major Plastic Surgical Text Book

Dr Hodgkinson has again been published in the world of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This time he was honoured to be asked to write the chapter on Liposuction and Liposculpture in a major text book on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery which was recently published by Wiley. Other contributors to the text book included leading Plastic Surgeons from all over the world.

Liposculpture and Liposuction continue to grow in popularity as the developed world struggles more with weight whilst simultaneously worshipping the body beautiful in the media.  Contrary to popular belief, however, liposuction/liposculpture is not an “easy” procedure.  The procedure entails not only removing fat cells but actually sculpting a smooth and beautiful figure for a woman or an etched and muscular physique for a man.  The expertise required for this can only be gained over a number of years and cases and requires much more than technical ability but an understanding of aesthetics as well.  In Dr Hodgkinson’s case, he has been performing liposuction/liposculpture in Sydney for over thirty years.  In fact he was at the first meeting where it was introduced in 1982 by French surgeon Dr Gerard Illouz.  He has been involved in the development of both the technique and the technology. Whilst technology continues to develop the hype must always be taken with a grain of salt as the latest and greatest technology are tools that assist but will always only be able to achieve what the surgeon is capable of. There is no substitute for experience.
