Double Bay Day Surgery Putting Patient Safety First

Dr Hodgkinson with some of his team at the Double Bay Day Surgery

Double Bay Day Surgery had its annual audit by NSW Health and once again we are proud to announce that we had 100% compliance.  The Double Bay Day Surgery opened its doors as a licensed facility twenty years ago and it has always put patient safety first.

Whilst we have been licensed from day one, many surgical facilities that carry out cosmetic surgery were not licensed and some are still not licensed.  It is only since March of this year that it became a requirement for facilities where cosmetic surgery is performed to be licensed under NSW Health.  Prior to this, it was possible to cut price by cutting corners on the quality of the facility, the sterilisation requirements, the provision and maintenance of adequate equipment and instruments not just for the surgery but in case of emergency, the  number and qualifications of staff present at an operation and the list goes on and on.  In fact, liposuction of up to 2.5 litres can still be legally performed in unlicensed facilities which leaves concerns that somehow the number of litres reported to be removed in any given operation will somehow now fall below this mark to suit the law as opposed to reflecting reality.

The Double Bay Day Surgery has always imposed on itself the highest quality standards of both surgical results and patient safety.  It is not only licensed but also accredited under both the National Health Care Standards and ISO 9001.  These external audits ensure that we are on or above par with the requirements for any surgical facility in Australia.

Congratulations to the Double Bay Day Surgery team for another outstanding audit result!
